What is eyelid sagging? Structurally or due to aging, skin accumulation in the upper eyelid and its descent towards the eyelashes is called eyelid sagging. The procedure performed to remove excess skin that causes sagging in the upper eyelid is also called upper blepharoplasty surgery. This procedure is also called eyelid lift surgery. Aesthetic eyelid surgery gives your eye area a more renewed appearance as a result of the removal of sagging excess skin and eye bags on the eyelids. The tired appearance on your face goes away, allowing you to have a more dynamic appearance.
- If the excess skin on your upper eyelid gives you a tired look
- If the excess skin on the upper eyelid hangs down to the eyelashes and prevents vision
- If you cannot apply make-up on the eyelid (applying eye shadow, drawing pencil) due to excess skin on the upper eyelid
Blepharoplasty, i.e. eyelid aesthetics, is often performed with local anaesthesia technique in which only the area where the surgery will be performed is numbed. If the patient wishes, it can be performed with a combination of sedation and local anaesthesia, which reduces the patient's anxiety and eliminates the stress of surgery. Sedative, i.e. relaxing medication is given to reduce your tension before the operation. These sedative drugs will ensure that you are comfortable during the local anaesthesia operation. This operation can also be performed using general anaesthesia. If general anaesthesia is given, you will sleep during the whole operation.
There may be mild pain and discomfort after the operation. These pains are relieved with simple painkillers. Keeping your head slightly elevated while lying down, applying cold compresses around your eyes will help reduce swelling and bruising. These procedures are sufficient for a few days. The dressing applied to the incisions in the valve with tapes can be changed in 3 days. Stitches are usually removed on the 5th day. Recovery from this surgery is fast and you can return to your normal life in the early period. Swelling may increase in the first 2 -3 days after the operation, after which it starts to decrease rapidly. Although bruising is not encountered very often, bruising may occur because the eye skin is very thin and sensitive. Bruising after eye aesthetics often disappears within 1 week. If desired, it can be easily covered with make-up. You can return to your social life in the early period by wearing sunglasses. Elimination of sagging skin around the eyes and fat tissue that causes bagging gives you a younger and fitter appearance.
If the eyebrows are low and the excess skin on the upper eyelid is limited, botox application to the forehead and around the eyes alleviates eyelid sagging by allowing the eyebrows to remain. If the skin on the upper eyelid is very yellow and touches the eyelashes, botox application is not very effective. Botox to be applied 2-3 weeks after eyelid aesthetic surgeries provides an excellent rejuvenation in the eye contour and forehead by eliminating wrinkles due to mimics in the forehead, between the eyebrows and around the eyes. It affects the results very positively.
